About Wrexham

Millions of pounds worth of public and private finance has been invested in schools, roads, colleges, healthcare and the retail sector. The historic market town with basic industries has been transformed into North Wales’ premier administrative, educational, commercial, shopping, cultural and industrial centre.

Wrexham is now a Mecca for sport and culture, with its museums, arts programmes, theatre and media quarter and stadia for international sporting events, including rugby, football, tennis, horse racing and athletics.

Wrexham has a growing education sector, which includes the renowned Yale College of Further Education and the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, which is actively seeking University status.

The Wrexham Maelor Hospital, the largest single site hospital in North Wales, has recently undergone an extensive multi-million pound programme of modernisation and growing academic status in conjunction with the University of Wales College of Medicine.

In addition to the £150 million already poured into the town centre with a large leisure and retail development close to the town centre being planned. A further £10 million non-food retail scheme has recently been completed.

Even with massive regeneration, Wrexham has retained its charm.

Those favouring a more personal service continue to be delighted by that which can only be provided by small businesses and traditional markets, including a monthly Farmers’ Market.

The location of Wrexham in the very centre of the UK with its breathtaking scenery and green environment is the County Borough’s greatest asset.

Another of Wrexham’s famous landmarks, Thomas Telford’s magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, stretches across some of the most glorious countryside in the Country.

Good for Business

Wrexham is a major centre of industrial growth in the UK. The thriving business community consists of everything from small indigenous operations to major multi-nationals and world class companies.

Renowned international companies in Wrexham include Kellogg\\\'s, JCB, Duracell, Tetrapak, Cadburys, Continental Can, Calypso, Owens Corning, Sharp, Hoya and Brother Industries.

The spirit and efforts of local people, with tremendous support from public sector agencies, the voluntary sector and the private business sector, have transformed Wrexham to make it the powerhouse of the North Wales economy and a diverse, advanced manufacturing centre. Wrexham Industrial Estate is now the largest industrial estate in Wales and the third largest in the UK.

A great many organisations have made substantial investments in the area. The fact that they continue to thrive and maintain their commitment demonstrates that, as a location, Wrexham provides a business environment in which they can prosper, flourish and feel confident enough to expand and re-invest. Wrexham is within just two hours drive of one third of the UK\\\'s population and half of its manufacturing industries.

Engineering, automotive components, packaging, healthcare/medical/pharmaceutical, electronics, optical fibres/opto-electronics, food processing, aerospace, chemicals and plastics are all strongly represented in the area.
